One of the most famous war memorials in the world, Washington’s Vietnam Veterans Memorial has been touching the hearts of visitors since its erection in the late 20th century. The black granite wall, designed by Maya Ying Lin, is inscribed with the names of more than 58, 000 soldiers who died in the Vietnam War. The wall is purposely fashioned with the slick black granite so that visitors can see their reflections in the wall as they read the names. In addition, if one sets their ear upon the memorial and looks toward the Washington Monument, a star is formed by the reflected image of the monolith monument.
