Construction for the White House began in 1792, quite appropriately under the direction of our first president, George Washington. However, the “Executive Mansion” as it was originally called, would not see completion until 1800, and thus, ironically, President Washington would become the first and only American President to NOT live in the White House. Anyway, tours of the White House are available five days out of the week and begin around 7:30am, which means you better get in line around 5:30am. Sounds fun, huh? Then again, important things DO happen in there, right?
